Hello, this is Kayaba from the ApparelX Division.

Today, as the title suggests, I will be introducing IRIS pearl buttons and pearl hardware.

Click here for the IRIS Maker page.

Click here for a list of IRIS pearl buttons & hardware products.

What is pearl button (hardware)?

Simply put, it is buttons/hardware that resembles real pearls.

Because it gives a feminine impression, it may be suitable for occasions or women, but by simply using pearl buttons on a colorful high-gauge knit, for example, you can create a soft impression that is not too casual.

material

There are several types of materials used for pearl buttons, and their characteristics, such as whether they can be dyed or not, vary depending on the material.

Below we introduce typical materials used for pearl buttons.

IP (imitation pearl)

This may be a material description used only for IRIS, but it is a urea-based material that has been processed to resemble a pearl in color and shape.

Since it is coated to give it a pearlescent look, if the coating peels off, the underlying material may be visible.

It is also a material that cannot be dyed.

PN2000

UF (urea resin)

This is a resin button based on urea. It is characterized by excellent heat resistance and light resistance.

The color of the material itself, not the coating, is pearl-like. (Cannot be dyed)

Please note that urea resin contains formaldehyde, so it cannot be used on clothing for infants under 2 years old.

Also, if you leave the buttons soaked for a long time (overnight), the buttons may become soft, causing them to crack or chip.

PA (Polyamide resin/Nylon resin)

Nylon resin is generally characterized by high dyeability.

Also, by taking advantage of the elasticity of the resin, it is used in combination products such as plated hardware.

When I compare the photos, I feel that the IP and UF materials are closer to real pearls than the PA material products.

However, PA material is attractive because it can be combined with other materials that take advantage of the dyeability of the pearl part and its elasticity.

If you have a rough understanding of the characteristics of each material, you will find it easier to choose the product that best suits your purpose.

Types of pearl buttons

Due to the characteristics of pearl buttons, the shape of the button is basically a button with a foot.

What is a button with a foot (shank button)?

As the name suggests, this button is shaped like a button with legs. The thread and buttonholes are not visible from the front, and this shape is often used for highly decorative buttons such as metal buttons.

round foot button

AZP6324

This type has rounded legs.

square foot button

TIF004

The shape of the legs is angular.

Tunnel foot (tunnel hole) button

PN1000

This button has a tunnel-like hole in a part of the button shape.

I can't say for certain what it's used for, but I feel like most boxes use tunnel foot buttons for durability when it comes to knit products.
