FLUTECT® Treatment Confirmed Effective Against the Novel Coronavirus!

Since around November, with the renewed spread of the novel coronavirus, functional materials treated with antiviral technology have been drawing renewed attention.

Antiviral processing technology first drew major attention with CLEANSE®, and textiles treated with CLEANSE® have continued to be in short supply.

Meanwhile, there is big news from Shikibo!!

The FLUTECT® treatment used in ApparelX's original T/C broadcloth fabric [FT4545] has also been announced to be effective against the novel coronavirus, according to test results※.

FLUTECT treatment is a process in which a chemical is impregnated into the fabric, causing changes to the viral structure called the envelope and rendering the virus unable to infect.

Points to note

The test itself was conducted using 100% cotton woven fabric and 100% rayon nonwoven fabric, so we cannot say whether exactly the same level of effectiveness can be obtained with other FLUTECT®-treated textiles.

This is true for antiviral processing technologies in general: the test results are for the processing technology itself, not for the treated textile.

Explanations about the effectiveness in this area are also very sensitive for manufacturers, so I feel this is something that requires caution.

Rather than taking a simplistic view such as “FLUTECT® treatment = effective against coronavirus,” it seems necessary to understand what kind of effects can be expected.

Summary

Even so, FLUTECT® treatment is expected to be effective against the novel coronavirus.
