The Vislon® and coil zipper NATULON® types introduced here are recycled zippers made using chemical recycling. Chemical recycling is as follows.
The collected synthetic fiber products are sent to a factory, washed, finely crushed, and then chemically decomposed to return them to the original raw material, DMT (dimethyl terephthalate), which is used as a fiber raw material. This is already being carried out by multiple companies in programs that collect and chemically recycle nylon and polyester products, mainly uniforms, after use. In the case of polyester, it is returned to DMT (dimethyl terephthalate), and in the case of nylon, to caprolactam, where it is used as a fiber raw material. We regret that we do not know the recycling cost or the CO2 emissions in the regeneration process, but with chemical recycling zippers, after use they are chemically processed again and returned to the fiber raw material stage, making it possible to manufacture them again as recycled zippers.
This really seems like a zipper for a circular economy.
It seems that the use of recycled materials has become standard worldwide.
