This time, we were visited by Topman Kogyo, a bias tape manufacturer!
Since appearing on ApparelX last fall, inquiries and orders have been steadily increasing, so we hope to share as much of its appeal as possible!
For those wondering, let us start with a simple introduction to Topman Kogyo.
Topman Kogyo was founded in Osaka and started out as a manufacturer of textile materials.
Well known in Kansai, Topman Kogyo’s expansion into Kanto is actually a relatively recent development. Always taking on new products, the company began handling roll materials about 5 or 6 years ago and continues to challenge itself with new endeavors.
In 2019, just as it had built a factory in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam and was ready to move forward, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Although sales declined and the company was in quite a pinch for a while, its product quality was recognized, and it has now become a remarkable manufacturer entrusted with production for a well-known apparel maker.
It is said that the company is looking ahead to manufacturing in ASEAN in the future.
It has three main business divisions, and the one leading bias tape processing is the Development Division.
In addition to new product development, they also gladly handle somewhat specialized requests, such as applying interlining to your own textile and processing it into bias tape (if you're interested, please feel free to contact them!)
There were also many other exciting processes, such as lamination and fusion bonding.
The other three pillars are the Lifestyle Division, which handles planning, development, and production of health (care) miscellaneous goods, and the National Brand Division, which develops in-house products such as taping and insoles under the theme of beauty and health.
Everyone got excited and said, “Oh, I’ve seen this one before!”
Let’s take a quick review here.
As everyone knows, bias processing refers to cutting woven fabric at a 45° angle to make it more stretchable so it can be used for edging and similar purposes.
By the way, a cut made at a 22–23° angle is called half bias.
So, what are Topman Kogyo’s unique strengths among the many bias tape manufacturers?
Unusually for a bias tape manufacturer, Topman Kogyo has abundant inventory, which means they can deliver the exact meter length customers want. That is one of their strengths.
