This time, we would like to introduce KOMATSUWA TEXTILE, which handles highly original textiles.
KOMATSUWA TEXTILE is a long-established textile wholesaler founded in 1954 and headquartered in Nihonbashi, Tokyo.
In addition to wholesaling textiles, it also plans, develops, and sells textiles and fabrics in-house.
Their textile planning and development is quite distinctive, and they have launched several brands that clearly show which dyeing factory is involved.
(We will explain this in detail in the next section.)
They also carefully select greige fabric from the yarn stage, work directly with dyeing factories, and collaborate to make textiles.
Now, let us introduce the different types of textiles they actually offer.
AZUMADAKI is a coined word combining Tokyo's “Azuma” and “simmering.”
It is produced at a dyeing factory located at the foot of the Tokyo Skytree.
This is a modern revival of the dyeing method called “kamaire,” which was used in the Edo period, where woven textiles were placed in a small Goemon bath and slowly boiled and dyed with colors extracted from plants.
The greatest feature of AZUMADAKI is that it is dyed in a kettle smaller than usual.
As a result, the fabric is repeatedly kneaded against other fabrics and against the kettle walls.
This removes the core and creates a soft, relaxed texture.
I was actually able to touch an AZUMADAKI typewriter cloth. Typewriter cloth is originally tightly woven and has a crisp hand, but after AZUMADAKI processing it became amazingly relaxed and had the soft feel of something that had been washed many times.
The AZUMADAKI series often features beautiful checks and colors, so it is recommended for Ladies products.

Although it is 100% linen, AZUMADAKI processing gives it softness and a natural swelling feel.
A natural wrinkled texture is also a feature.
AZUMADAKI-130 Antique French linen
This French linen has beautiful coloring.
All of the colors have depth and are lovely, but personally I especially love No. 3 Sky Blue, which has a slightly greenish tone.
AZUMADAKI-143 AZUMADAKI Hyoutanjima Antique quilt
This is a quilting fabric with continuous gourd-shaped stitching on two layers of 40-count fabric.
There is no batting between the layered fabrics, so it does not become overly thick and is also recommended for outerwear.
KOTOHIRADAKI fabric is born in a town with the beautiful sea of the Seto Inland Sea and Mount Ohyama, said to be Japan's smallest mountain.
It was originally a glove-producing area, and the dyeing factory began by dyeing knit yarn.
Because of its location near the workwear production areas of Hiroshima and Okayama, it specializes in sturdy fabrics that retain firmness, such as bottoms fabrics.
It is suitable for outerwear and bottoms.
KOTOHIRADAKI-20 Antique quilt Diamond Man
This is an antique-style quilt in linen/cotton fabric.
Its characteristic is a wrinkled texture and feel that looks as if it has been washed many times.
Recommended for outerwear and more.
KOTOHIRADAKI-31 Antique super-fluffy corduroy super-fluffy Kotohira processing
This is a cotton corduroy fabric.
By applying KOTOHIRADAKI processing, it becomes a corduroy fabric with a used look and a refined texture.
Recommended for jackets, outerwear, bottoms, and more.
KOTOHIRADAKI-37 Linen one-piece dress Old vintage processing
This is a vintage-style cotton/linen fabric.
It comes in a wide range of calm, subdued colors.
Because it is a sturdy fabric, it is recommended for jackets and other outerwear.
The dyeing factory is located in Ashikaga, where Orihime Shrine stands, an area known since the Edo period for silk, silk dyeing, and meisen.
It originally started as a dyeing factory specializing in silk yarn dyeing.
It specializes in a fabric feel that sits right between the AZUMADAKI and KOTOHIRADAKI mentioned above.
ORIHIMEDAKI-4 40/ High-density down proof ORIHIMEDAKI processing
This is a high-density down proof fabric with just the right amount of firmness.
Its calm earth-tone coloring can be used by both men and women.
Kiryu, located on the eastern edge of Gunma Prefecture in the northern part of the Kanto Plain on the border with Tochigi Prefecture, is the origin of the name KINANADAKI, coming from a place of seven textile techniques and traditional crafts.
For over 100 years in this area, they have devoted themselves entirely to dyeing. Initially, while carrying out final processes such as starch removal and steaming for kimono obi fabric, they coexisted and prospered alongside the good old days, making use of their knowledge and skills in dyeing and color.
The KINANADAKI method was born from a dyeing style that conveys the craftspeople's skill, technique, passion, and dedication passed down through generations.
They are good at menswear-like items and mainly produce medium-weight materials such as denim.
They apparently have high-pressure machines and produce around the clock in three shifts.

It has substantial thickness, and the surface is brushed, so it is recommended for autumn and winter jackets and outerwear.
・Because many of these fabrics are made mainly through the hands of craftsmen, production takes quite a long time.
Please allow plenty of lead time from sample production to mass production.
・Because the fabric may have distortion, it is sometimes said to be difficult to cut.
Since the fabric is dyed in machines like washing machines, wrinkles may appear strongly. Please take care when cutting.
・Many fabrics vary greatly depending on the lot.
Please cut from a single lot during mass production.
・Because they mainly handle natural materials, the natural off-white color is made into yarn, so the color is apparently not stable.
The color may become darker or off-white depending on the time of harvest, so we hope you will understand that this is a natural color.
