The facing silk fabric used is woven in a small textile workshop in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading silk-producing regions. Fujiyoshida is a historic production area that dates back to the Heian period. This land, where spring water from Mount Fuji emerges, has the clean water essential for good dyeing conditions.
In the weaving process, Yamamoto’s blended facing silk fabric uses as many as 13,000 warp threads in a width of just 47 cm, and the weft uses 120-denier yarn twisted double to create an astonishing 240-denier thickness.
Slow weaving on shuttle looms traps air in the fabric, creating a dimensional texture, and craftsmen continually inspect it for any defects. Dyeing, yarn spinning, warping, and weaving are each carried out by craftsmen for our customers, under strict quality control to produce the best possible product.
